Edith June (Smith) Treece will celebrate her 90th birthday on June 25 with an open house reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway. Hosts for the event will be her son, Randall of Wichita and her life-long friend, Louise Gunn of Great Bend.
Edith was born on June 21, 1921 in St. John to John D. and Emma (Campbell) Smith. She was married to Floyd Treece on her parents 43rd anniversary, Nov. 14, 1940. She and her husband moved to Great bend in January 1941 and have made their home in Great Bend since that time. They have two children, Linda, deceased, and Randall. They celebrated their 65th anniversary before his death in 2006.  She was employed by USD 428 for 20 years, serving as secretary to Eisenhower Elementary office and the Great bend High School guidance office. She has been involved in many community affairs. She was active in the Great Bend Community Concert Association from its beginning until recently. She was a plus 50 year active member of the General Federation of Womens Club before the local chapter moved to being Etudion Social Club; is a member of Fort Zarah Club (formerly and Extension group), a charter member of the earlier Community Theatre and is a member of the present Community Theatre. She became a member of the First Christian Church as soon as she  moved to Great Bend and has been active in its various programs. She has served as president in women’s groups, teaching Sunday School classes, youth groups, junior choir, and singing in the church choir until recently.
