Gayle Cargill, a resident of River Bend Assisted Living, will celebrate her 100th birthday with a community reception from 5-7 p.m. on May 28, at the Best Western Angus Inn’s Courtyard, 2920 10th St. No gifts are requested.
Gayle was born May 31, 1917, in Washington, Okla. She lived most of her life in the Plainview, Texas, area. She was married to P.V. Cargill in 1934. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage before his death in 1989. Gayle moved to Great Bend in 1997 and into River Bend in 2011. She is a charter member of Heartland Community Church. Before experiencing visual and health limitations she lived a very active life, including such things as line dancing, bridge, travel and involvement in her church.
She is the mother of Kay Savage and the grandmother of Krista Ball, both residents of Great Bend. Two daughters were born to P.V. and Gayle, Shirley, who died in 1985, and Kay Savage, who lives in Great Bend. Kay is the wife of Pastor Roy Savage. Gayle has six grandchildren (two deceased), one of which is Krista Ball of Great Bend; 19 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
