George “Blackie” Hejny will celebrate his 80th birthday with an Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 2 at the Carl Soden Recreation Center in Great Bend.
He was born on a farm north of Olmitz to George and Christine Stremel Hejny, the eldest of 11 children. He operated Blackie’s Lounge in Great Bend in the early 70s and owned and operated Blackies Welding for many years, living in Sterling, Olmitz, Lyons and Great Bend. He retired in 1995. He has four children from a previous marriage. In 1986 he married Dixie Campbell and gained three step-children. He will celebrate his birthday on June 11 with his family.
