John “Jack” Bergren will celebrate his 90th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, at his home at 205 E. 7th Street in Hoisington. No gifts are requested.
Jack was born Oct. 13, 1926, at Severy to Reuben and Muriel Bergren. He was the second of three boys born to that family. His parents and both brothers are deceased. On May 23, 1981, he married his wife Darlene in Hoisington. Working for 40 years as a Telephone Technician, he retired in 1987. He started work at Kiowa, with the Western Light and Telephone Co. at the ‘ice house’, later moving to the Electric and Telephone division in Kiowa. He transferred to the Hoisington location, which had been bought by Contel, in 1976, where he retired. An avid sports fan, he never misses a game on TV and at one time he and his wife had Barton County Basketball season tickets. He has three children, Joni (Steve) Sterling, of Alva, Okla., Lori (Kevin) Campbell, of Arkansas City and Kerry of Wichita; and four grandchildren, Darbi (Daniel) Hinde, of Alva, Okla., Brandt Sterling of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kianne Campbell of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Kacee Campbell of Manhattan; His sister-in-law LaJean Bergren lives in Keller, Texas.
