Mildred E. Meitner will celebrate her 105th birthday on Sept. 30, with a private family dinner. Visitors are welcome any day between 2 and 4 p.m. at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend
Born in Friend Neb. she later attended nursing school at Lincoln General Hospital. Her nursing career took her to Los Angeles, Calif. where, during World War II, she met and married her husband Eugene F. Meitner of Olmitz who was an inspector for McDonald Douglas Aircraft. They soon returned to Olmitz to run the family farm. Mildred continued to work as an RN at St. Rose Hospital and Central Kansas Medical Center before her retirement in 1976. Her husband died in June of 1993. Mildred has one son, Gary Meitner of Great Bend and his wife Penny; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
