Roy L. Myers

Roy L. Myers of Great Bend, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Dec. 29 with a card shower.
 Roy was born on Dec. 29, 1921, to Herman and Olive (Utt) Myers in rural Otto. He graduated from Burden High School in 1939 and enlisted in the United States Army Airforce in April 1942. On July 6, 1942, he married Juanita R. Hensley of Wichita. Roy then served in four European World War II campaigns and received an honorable discharge in September 1945. He  came home to his wife and a two-year-old son, Roy Lynn. A second son, David L. was born in 1946 to complete the happy family.
After the war, Roy L. worked in Wichita for the IRS and later came to Claflin to work as an oilfield accountant. In 1955, Roy L. and Juanita started ROMYCO Business Services in Great Bend. In 1965, they became the H & R Block franchise owners for Great Bend, Larned, Ellinwood and Hoisington.
When Roy L. and Juanita retired, they moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where Juanita passed away on May 5, 2008. Roy L. returned to Great Bend in June of 2010.
Roy L. is fond of saying that he has started a whole clan. His children and grandchildren are: Roy Lynn and wife Jacqueline, and four children; Betsy K. Johnson and husband Stephen and two children, all of Great Bend; Jeffrey L. and wife Danielle, and four children, of Manitou Springs, Colo.; Scott E. and  wife Shelly and three children, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Timothy A. and wife Jessica of Raleigh, N.C.; David L., (and deceased wife, Anne) and four children of Portsmouth, N.H.; David C. and wife Shannon and three sons, of Lancaster, Mass.; Kevin, wife Molly and one daughter, of Hopkinton, Mass.; Jennifer Kendall and husband Chip of Newark, Del.; and Emily Rembert and husband Sam, of Atlanta, Ga.; and David L. is engaged and will soon be married to Nancy Jackson.
