Vernon Dirks will celebrate his 90th birthday on May 9, with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Albert City Building, across the street east from the Farmers Bank in Albert. Hosts for the event will be his daughters, Carolyn Humburg and husband Tom, of Great Bend, and Charlene Miller of Monument, Colo. and his son Gerald Dirks of Albert.
Vernon was born on May 12, 1925, at the family home in rural Albert. He spent his life farming and is now retired. His wife Catherine Dirks died in March 2007.
