Virginia Sharp will celebrate her 90th birthday on Oct. 11, with a card shower.
Virginia was born on Oct. 11, 1925, and has resided in rural Barton County most of her life. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked at KPL in Great Bend. In 1948, she married Leonard Sharp. Together, they raised four children, Lenora, James, Charles and John, on their farm. Virginia worked for the Barton County Extension Service for a number of years. She also helped Leonard on their family farm. At one time, they had a poultry operation of 64,000 laying hens. After they “retired”, Virginia and Leonard delivered the Hutchinson News to rural areas of southern Barton and northern Stafford counties. She remains very active and is a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church in Great Bend. Her interest in discovering new places has led her to become a world traveler since Leonard’s death in 2012. Virginia chose to celebrate this special occasion by taking her four children and their spouses on a cruise to the Bahamas.
