The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on Dec. 12, at Montana Mike’s. President Sally O’Connor presided over the meeting. There were 46 members present, along with Superintendent of USD 428, Brad Reed.
In order for the group to be more inclusive of those who don’t reside in Barton County, the name will be changed to “Central Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel.”
The group decided to contribute funds to the USD 428 Foundation and the local Food Bank.
Concern was expressed over the budget shortfall and the Legislative Platform put forth by the KARSP Legislative Committee, which has been largely ignored.
The following officers for 2015 were installed: President Sally O’Connor; Vice President Judy Fox; Secretary Roger Hallenbeck; and Treasurer Lenny Gales.
Superintendent Brad Reed had brief remarks.
The program was presented by the Great Bend High School Madrigal Singers, with director Susan Stambaugh.
All retired school personnel in central Kansas are invited and encouraged to become involved in the local group. The next meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. on March 13, at Montana Mike’s, with District IV Director Verneene Forssburg speaking. Retired school personnel are invited to get involved and guests are always welcome.
