The Great Bend Noon Kiwanis club’s annual Halloween Parade saw more than 1,000 child participants on Oct. 25, member Barb Konrade reported.
Adding live entertainment in the courthouse square helped give children something to do while waiting for the costume contest that followed the trek for treats. The club brought in Randy Sauer, an elementary vocal music instructor from Hays, who writes action songs for children.
Members of Kiwanis Aktion clubs from Rosewood Services and Sunflower Diversified Services help children at crosswalks as they walked up and down Main Street for trick or treating.
Great Bend Kiwanis will celebrate its 75th anniversary later this month. Other upcoming events are delivering Christmas boxes in December and the county spelling bee on Jan. 31, 2015.
