Preceptor Pi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met March 1 at the CPI Annex. President Brenda Black led the meeting.
Black reported the executive committee met preceding the meeting to plan rituals for Janis Link, who will be honored with the Silver Circle Ceremony; Linda Jerke and Reta Lucas, receiving the Preceptor Degree; and Karen Reif, receiving the Exemplar Degree. The Silver Circle and Preceptor rituals are set for April 5 and the Exemplar ritual will be April 19.
Members decided to continue bringing cereal for the Food Bank in March. For April, members will contribute their choice of grocery items for the Food Bank.
Social chair Karen Reif reported tentative plans for a Girls’ Afternoon Out on March 19. She plans to survey members at the March 15 meeting to find out how many plan to participate. Several members signed up to join Walk Across Kansas.
Rosie Luthi introduced the program presenters, Debbie Reif, director of Kans for Kids, and Renee Dykes, Kans for Kids president. Reif narrated a slide show telling how her son and daughter decided to start collecting aluminum cans when their young cousin was diagnosed with cancer in 1994. After they recruited their friends and classmates in Hoisington to join the cause, their small project grew into a major organization for children in Barton County who are living with cancer. In March 1996, their project officially became Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation, and after 16 years it is still helping children fight cancer by giving funds and support. Reif said a Radio Telethon for Kans for Kids is planned for 1 to 5 p.m. March 25 on all four Eagle Radio stations.
The next meeting of Preceptor Pi will be at 7 p.m. March 15 at the home of Reta Lucas. Cindy Meitler will be co-hostess and Karen Reif will present the program.
