Sharon Jones was hostess on Feb. 7 to 15 members of the Progress Club.
Harry Williams, Director of the Great Bend Public Library, gave the program assisted by Cara Negaard and Cathy Phan. He explained that books can be checked out on your computer from home and they will be ready to be picked up at the library. With instant learning, courses can be taken and even get degrees over the computer. Tests are administered at the library. He stressed the importance of reading to children saying it raises their IQ’s.
Cara Negaard, the Reference/Acquisitions Department Head, said that Great Bend is one of 38 libraries that share the Pathfinders Central Catalog. Many books are offered through the catalog. The books can be ordered and picked up at the library in Great bend.
Cathy Phan, Department Head/Consultant for CKLS Talking Books, explained the books are available for all ages with a handicap at no charge. Books arrive on a digital cartridge that are played on new compact digital machines.
Progress Club made a donation to the Great Bend Library.
Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Sharon Jones, Pat Klusener and Norma Ward.
The next meeting will be held on March 7 at the home of Karen Becker.
