The Progress Club met on March 7. Hostess was Karen Becker. Seventeen members were present.
Pat Halbower gave the program on Australia. In 1994, the Halbowers traveled to Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Australia is the only continent that is also a country. It was in the 1700’s that people first knew about this country. The English wanted to get rid of their criminals so they first sent them to America and then to Australia. The early tribes in the country were the Aborigines. One hundred-sixty thousand people were sent from England to this country. All of the animals were different, most notably the marsupials. The best known were the kangaroos. It is interesting to note that more alcohol is consumed in Australia than any other place in the world.
Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Karen Beck, Janet Little and Janet Engleman.
The next meeting will be on April 4 at the home of Mary Dikeman. A representative of Red Barn Dog Food will give the program.
