The Social Circle Club in Great Bend recently celebrated its centennial. The club was started by housewives of farmers in the Barton-Stafford County area. They began as a sewing club, making quilts and enjoying each others company.
Over the years, the Social Circle changed into a card club whose members met on the last Wednesday of every month. The ladies also got together with their husbands for covered-dish dinners (and more cards games and socializing) during the winter months when the farmers had more time.
Generations have kept the club alive. Members still get together for monthly meetings with evening card parties.
A come-and-go celebration was held June 11 with past and present members, friends and family invited to mark the group’s first 100 years.
