Sarah Ward, an intern for the Community Education at the Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic, gave a very informative program to the seniors after the Ellinwood Heritage potluck on Sept. 14, at the Heritage Center. Troy Moore, CEO of the hospital, and Jon Prescott, Strategic Development Manager, were also in attendance to give support for the new intern.

Sarah comes from Augusta, Ga., and it was her first time in Ellinwood even though Gaila Demel is her grandmother. She shared how to “Optimize Our Health” with nutrition, physical activity and involvement in your community.

She had slides to show for greater remembrance. She encouraged people to get out and enjoy Mother Nature by walking and enjoying the scenery – preferably now in the early morning or evening since it’s been very hot recently. Visiting your neighbors is good too for your health. 

She also shared that lab work is done on a Tuesday or Thursday, so no need to drive out of town to get this done. There will be an incentive for men to get a PSA test as they’re offering 50% off of the normal cost in September. She also mentioned how easy it is to switch providers and use the doctors and hospital in Ellinwood. “Just give it a try” she said. 

Sarah will leave the hospital mid-November and head back to Georgia to complete her studies and get her degree.
