Twelve-year-old Madison Joyner from Ellinwood was excited to see a sample of her artwork appear in the nationally syndicated “Slylock Fox and Comics for Kids” recently.

Great Bend Tribune employee Katie Joyner, who is responsible for preparing the color comics pages for our Saturday editions, said her daughter submitted the drawing last November and it was the April 22 edition of the paper.

“She knows I do the comics,” Katie said. Madison saw that readers can submit their drawings to Comics for Kids online, so she did.

“I like to draw a lot,” Madison said. At the time, she stayed up late one weekend working on a drawing of her favorite YouTuber. She thought her drawing was pretty good, so she submitted it.

Slylock Fox was created by Bob Weber Jr. and distributed by King Features. We asked Weber if he has published other art submitted from the Tribune’s readership area and received a quick reply:

“I’m happy and grateful that Slylock Fox appears in your newspaper,” Weber said. “I receive dozens of art submissions each week at slylockfox.com. They arrive by email on the site’s submission page and there is no indication of geographic location.”

As for Madison, she will soon be 13 years old and she still likes to draw. Currently, her favorite subjects are related to Christianity.
