Rod and Pam Smith of Sterling and Mark and Roxie Douglas of Hutchinson announce the engagement of their children, Lydia Smith and Brent Douglas. Grandparents of the bride-elect are Alvin and Delores Grose of Great Bend, Dale and Marlene Smith of Nickerson and Phyllis Salter of Oklahoma. Grandparents of the prospective groom are Charles and Kay German of Hutchinson and the late William and Polly Douglas.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Sterling High School. She graduated from Sterling College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and from Emporia State University with a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education Unified. She is employed as a pre-school teacher in Lyons.
The prospective groom is a graduate of Nickerson High School. He attended Hutchinson Community College. He is employed by Tyson in South Hutchinson.
The wedding is planned for June 9 at the Sterling United Methodist Church, Sterling.
