Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! We have lots of exciting events happening next week starting with a Teen Cafe event from 3:30-5 p.m. on Monday. Teens will get the chance to make their own quill pen while they enjoy freshly brewed coffee or hot chocolate.
Then Thursday, April 14, is our Teen Manga and Anime Club. At this meeting, we will be discussing and watching “Bleach,” (2018) the story of teenager Ichigo Kurosaki, who inherits the powers of a Soul Reaper. We will also be doing traditional Japanese tie-dye called shibori to make our own furoshiki, a special type of cloth used to wrap gifts or one’s lunch. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. with a discussion of the manga, followed by tie-dyeing and a viewing of the first episode of the anime. Copies of “Bleach” are available in the Teen Spot for checkout.
For adults, the Wildlife Book Club will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. The book we will be discussing is “The Hidden Life of Trees,” by Peter Wohlleben. “As this celebration of the trees shows, they are our countryside; our ancestors descended from them; they gave us air to breathe. Yet while the stories of trees are as plentiful as leaves in a forest, they are rarely told. Here, Colin Tudge travels from his own back garden ‘round the world to explore the beauty, variety and ingenuity of trees everywhere: from how they live so long to how they talk to each other and why they came to exist in the first place. Lyrical and evocative, this book will make everyone fall in love with the trees around them.”
If this piques your interest you can pick up a copy of this book at the front desk. And don’t forget about the Adult Craft this Thursday at 6 p.m. on April 14. Attendees will get the chance to make their own D.I.Y. stamps!
For all the kiddos between 3rd and 5th grade out there, we have an Eggstravaganza planned for next Friday, April 15! The Eggtastic fun will begin at 10:30 a.m. Kids will have the chance to learn as they perform eggy experiments like egg rockets, volcano eggs, egg vacuum, and even an egg drop challenge. This event does require pre-registration so please visit our website greatbendpl.info to register.
