Are you ready for a summer of possibilities? Here at the Great Bend Public Library, we are gearing up for a summer full of oceans of possibilities! We have so many amazing events planned this June and July, and it all starts with our after-hours Summer Kick-Off Friday, June 3, at 5 p.m. Brad Shores of Tropic Shores Steel Drums will be here to bring an “island atmosphere” to our celebration. Don’t forget to grab your free snow cone from Mike and Ice between 5 and 6 p.m. After you’ve finished that delicious frozen treat, enjoy some lawn games with the whole family. As the evening winds down, adults can join us in the library to cool off as we embark on a harrowing nautical adventure for the June Adults' Night Out Movie at 7 p.m. And teens, don’t forget to show up while we’re open at 2 p.m. for our Teen Tiki Bar. Make your own lei while you sip on a fruity mocktail, then enjoy some games out on the library’s front lawn.

We hope that everyone has a great time at our big kickoff, but don’t forget the most important part, summer reading registration! From 5 6 p.m., patrons of all ages can register to keep track of their reading hours in June and July for the chance to earn prizes at the end of the summer-long program.

Next week, our programming schedule is back in full swing with children’s events such as Reading to Luna on Monday at 10:30 a.m., our story times, Whale Tales and Coral Reef Readers, both at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Then get ready for a wave of science on Wednesday with three special Mad Science events, the first one starting at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday we will travel Beneath the Tides with Sea Life of Kansas City, when children will learn about rock pools, sea stars, sea urchins, and epaulet sharks with videos and activities provided by Sea Life Kansas City.

For teens, starting June 3 you can visit our website’s teen page to sign up for the Summer TeenBookCrate. Registration will be open until Thursday, June 9. Next week, come to the Teen Spot to compete in our LEGO Challenge: Waterworks on Monday at 4 p.m. On Thursday join us for our first Teen Anime Watch Party of the summer at 4 p.m. We will close out the week with a Casual Game Friday at 3:15 p.m., when we will be playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

For adults, we have our first Adult Craft Night of the summer next Thursday at 6 p.m. It’s one you won’t want to miss! Attendees will get to make their own Ocean Paint Pour, the perfect thing to add to your summer decor.
