Dr. Delberta Hollaway Coonrod Vannoy, a 1955 Great Bend High School and 1961 University of Kansas graduate, is pictured as cover of the 2020 Millennium, a publication of Marquis Who’s Who. Dr. Vannoy and husband, Charles Vannoy, live in rural Shelby County, Mo.
She began teaching with a 60-hour Kansas Teaching Certificate at Barton County’s Hood School. Next, she taught first and second grades at Barton County’s Heizer Rural School.
After receiving the B.S. in Education from the University of Kansas. Hollaway married Charles Ralph Coonrod of Great Bend (he died in 2013), and pursued the M.S. and Ed.D. from Indiana University-Bloomington, Ind. To prepare to teach non-English speakers with Fort Worth Texas Independent School District, she earned ESL Certification from Texas Woman’s University, Denton. During her career,she held positions with Indiana University, Indiana State University, Texas Christian University, Texas Woman’s University.
Moving to rural Bethel, Mo., she became director of teacher education at Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo., and most recently taught at Binh Duong University in Vietnam.
