Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Today, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m., it’s time for trivia. Don the one ring and journey to the Prancing Pony (aka Dry Lake Brewery) for a night of Lord of the Rings Trivia! And remember, no matter how well you do, Boromir would have done better.

Keep the cold-weather blues away with our Winter Reading Bingo! Pick up your sheet, then complete the cozy objectives in a row of five and turn in your sheet by Jan. 31 to enter into a prize drawing. There will be prizes for Children, Teens, and Adults. There is still time to pick up a sheet before the wrap party, so make sure to swing by and snag one. Teens will receive Library Loot for each teen event they attend before the end of January to spend at the February prize store!

Next week, we start things off with two programs at the same time! Get excited, teens and tweens, because we are bringing up a double dose of fun at 4 p.m. For tweens, grades 3 to 6, it’s time to get crafty with Monday Crafternoon. As part of the library’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary this year, we are celebrating our diverse cultural heritage as expressed through our national artists. Participants will be introduced to renowned artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol. Each artist had their own techniques for creating pieces, which the tweens will use to create their own works of art in the respective styles of the different artists. This Monday, we will be celebrating Georgia O’Keeffe. Now that we know what the tweens are up to, how about the teens, grades 6 to 12? Well, grab your popcorn and hold onto your butts for an adventure of Jurassic proportions, because it’s time for Movie Monday! We will be showing a movie about “a ragtag band sent on a classified mission to collect samples from three de-extinct dinosaurs for a new life-saving medical treatment. When they run into a stranded family on a vacation gone wrong, the retrieval mission turns into a fight for survival and a race against time (IMDb).”

Online registration for two teen events (grades 6-12) opens on Monday as well.

Looking for a short campaign to join? Players old and new can try out our new  Tabletop Teens D&D Miniseries this spring. Those who don’t get a spot as a player will be put on the wait list. Any teens are welcome to come watch as part of the audience (no registration required)!

Compete to see who is the master of frosting! You have until Feb. 18 to visit our website and register online for Cupcake Wars on Feb. 24.

Tuesday starts things off with Story Time at 10:30 a.m. Then, bring your smart device-related questions to Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m.

I’d like to wish everyone a very happy Kansas Day on Jan. 29. What better way to celebrate Kansas history than finding out more about your own history? Discover your roots in Kansas and beyond with Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m.

Are you in your escape era? We still have spots open for our Taylor-inspired escape room next month on Galentine’s Day. Put your Taylor Swift knowledge to the test and see if you can escape before time runs out! Visit our website to register today.
