Here at the Great Bend Public Library, we are in full swing for a summer full of Oceans of Possibilities! This week all of our Children’s events start at 10:30 a.m., beginning with Reading to Luna on Monday. On Tuesday, join us for our story times, Whale Tales for 1st grade and younger and Coral Reef Readers for grades 2-5.
Wednesday, we have an extra special event for all ages. Mr. Kevin Horner the Ventriloquist will be here to make us laugh with his many puppet friends. Kevin has over 20 years of experience as a top-notch comedian and entertainer. He was even selected as Top Comedian Ventriloquist for six years running.
After that, come to our first We Grow Corn session on Thursday, when we’ll learn about growing Kansas corn using hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Read, create, experiment, and enjoy a tasty snack at each of our six planned sessions! Thank you to Kansas Corn Farmers for funding this program.
For teens, we have our Casual Game Friday on June 10 at 3:15 p.m., where we will be playing some friendly matches in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Next Monday will be our first Teen Café of the summer. This month’s theme is “So You Wanna Be a Barista,” and we’ll be teaching you how to make a few “fancy” coffee drinks starting at 3:30 p.m.! Monday is also the first day for teens who signed up for the TeenBookCrate Summer 2022 Edition to start picking those up, so be sure to claim yours after the Teen Café if you signed up for one. Wednesday marks the start of our Titanic-themed Choose-Your-Own Scavenger Hunt. The ship has hit an iceberg and is headed to the bottom of the sea! As a passenger or crew member, you must follow the clues to see if you will sink or swim. This will be an ongoing come-and-go event at the library until July 16.
Ever wanted an underwater friend? Well, Friday is your chance to grab a Teen Take & Make kit with everything you need to make your very own Socktopus Buddy.
Teens grades 6-12 and adults 18+ can join us this Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. for our first Adult & Teen Create! event. Come and make your own sea-themed Book Nook scene to nestle between the titles on your bookshelf.
