Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Before I get into the events, a quick announcement, this coming Monday, Feb. 20, the Great Bend Public Library will be closed for a staff in-service day. We will reopen on Tuesday at our regular time. Now, on to all the exciting events we have planned.

Starting with the kiddos, we have Story Time Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Then Friday, Feb. 24, get ready for a special interactive movie where we will watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Register for your golden ticket to attend our interactive movie celebration, complete with lots of yummy treats, at greatbendpl.info.

For Teens, Tuesday marks the beginning of the TeenBookCreate signup period. TeenBookCrate is a book box subscription without the fee! Teens can sign up to receive a themed reading and activity bundle this March. To sign up, please visit the teen page on our website. Next Friday, Teens can pick up this month’s Teen Take and Make. Takeout bundles include all the ingredients needed to make a tasty treat. This month you can make Vanilla Mug Cakes. Available while supplies last. Also happening Friday will be our next Upcycle It! event where teens learn how to make trash into treasure. This time teens will get to make T-shirt Rugs by weaving old T-shirts into chic new rugs to decorate their space with.

For teens and adults from seventh-graders to 100 years old we have our next Tech Time with Robby. Robby is a technology enthusiast with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Fort Hays State University. He will be here Thursday at 6 p.m. to teach about Microcomputers called Raspberry Pi. He will teach you about how to set them up and use them for game emulation, portable computing, and media centers. If this is something you’re interested in learning more about, this free class is a great way to get started and have your questions answered by a very knowledgeable individual.

For adults, we will start off Tuesday with Tech How To, where Miss Erin will be available from 11 a.m. to noon to help with any tech-related questions you may have. That evening at 7 p.m. will be Open Book Club. This month we will be discussing the book, “The Library of the Dead,” by T. L. Huchu. “When a child goes missing in Edinburgh’s darkest streets, young Ropa investigates. She’ll need to call on Zimbabwean magic as well as her Scottish pragmatism to hunt down clues. But as shadows lengthen, will the hunter become the hunted?” If this sounds like a book you would be interested in reading, copies are still available at the front desk.

Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the Health Department will be here to give free blood pressure checks in celebration of heart health month. This is a great time to get a quick and free heart check-up, especially if it’s been a while since your last doctor’s visit.

Lastly, as always, we have the Crochet Club meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday. As always new and seasoned crocheters are welcome.
