The Great Bend American Legion Post 180 is preparing for its 14th annual Luau Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 2. The public is invited to enjoy a special meal and then dance to live music, knowing proceeds will go to veterans’ organizations, the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home and Golden Plains Quilts of Valor. The Quilts of Valor group makes special quilts that are presented to honor area veterans.
The meal will feature Rick Munsch’s smoked ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Texas-style potatoes, baked beans and other sides and desserts will be furnished by the auxiliary.
The Legion is located at 1011 Kansas Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6. Guests can dance to the music of The Locals Band starting at 8 p.m.
There will also be a silent auction running from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and a live auction before the dance.
Tickets are $25 but can be purchased in advance for $20 at the Legion after 6 p.m. today (July 26) or Tuesday through Friday. Those interested in tickets can also call 620-792-1679 and leave a message.
A patriotic-themed quilt to be given away at a November drawing will also be on display. The quilt was made by Marcia Toennessen.
The quilt will be displayed at various events now through November, and tickets will also be available during that time.
Tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 12 for $10.
The raffle drawing will be on Nov. 28 at that month’s Quilts of Valor presentation. Ticket holders need not be present to win.
