As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I have encouraged some of my male clients to make sure they continue to make male friends to do guy things with and have those needs satisfied.

One thing that a lot of these men have chosen to do is to have a guy's night where they call up some friends and do something together. Often, these guy's nights include watching an action film that wives would be less than enthused to watch.

So, if you need a guy's night, here are five action films you might want to check out.

Rocky (1976)

Rocky has a little bit for every guy: its got action; its about an underdog; its got memorable lines; and its got terrific music. In the film, Sylvester Stallone plays Rocky Balboa. Balboa is an unknown boxer who has been chosen to fight against Apollo Creed, the champion of the world. The film chronicles Balboas training and life leading up to the fight and then finishes with the epic match between him and Creed. Grab your bros and watch Rocky if for no other reason than to shadow box to Eye of the Tiger.

Casino Royale (2006)

Casino Royale is a perfect movie for a guy's night. The film has exciting action, witty dialogue and an engrossing plot. For the unmarried guys, it also has beautiful women. The film is about James Bond attempting to stop an international terrorist conspiracy. The film is an extreme departure from the cheeky Pierce Brosnan films as Daniel Craig plays a much grittier 007. Check out Casino Royale and enjoy lots of stuff blowing up.

Taken (2008)

Some guys could care less about plot and dialogue, and just want action, action and more action. If that describes you, then Taken should be right up your alley. After his daughter is kidnapped in Europe, former CIA agent Bryan Mills uses his unique set of skills to rescue her. Watch Taken if you are in the mood to watch Liam Neeson be an absolute force.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

An old film that still resonates with young cowboys at heart, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a fun western movie. In the film, outlaws Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are on the run from the law. The two decide to leave the country and end up in Bolivia. A great shoot em up movie with humorous dialogue, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is sure to be a hit at your next guy's night.

Oceans Eleven (2001)

If the first four options are too violent for you, then Oceans Eleven might be right in your wheelhouse. In the film, Danny Ocean is recently released from prison and has a plan to rob millions from a Vegas casino. In order to complete his mission, he will need to recruit other thieves who have various skills. The film is a lot of fun, has an engaging plot and has some laugh-out-loud moments. The film also has a little bit of local flavor as two of the bandits are simply known as the Mormon twins from Utah. Throw on Oceans Eleven if you want a good action movie without the violence.
