Here are five movies from various platforms families may want to consider. Note: Since not all are appropriate for younger children, age recommendations are included.

Redbox: "Maleficent"

Clearplay.com calls Maleficent a wonderful retelling of the Sleeping Beauty tale, stating the emotional and physical drama of Maleficent keep things interesting throughout. Add to this a wonderful spin on true loves kiss, and you have a winner. The review also praised the films cinematography and Angelina Jolie for her performance as the title character. The website warns that the film contains a handful of violent and disturbing images that would be scary for very young viewers. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 9 and older.

In theaters: "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

Common Sense Media says while this film is targeted at mature audiences, the movie is fine for older tweens and teens who are open to an inter-generational story featuring dry British humor. The film is rated PG, but the website warns parents to expect some sexual references and situations. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 15 and older.

Amazon Prime: "Hook"

Hook tells the story of a grown-up Peter Pan returning to Neverland to rescue his children. Clearplay.com refers to the film as a family movie, but it also cautions that because the films plot is centered on the idea of the children being kidnapped, it may be frightening to young children. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 8 and older.

Netflix: "Dumbo"

Parent Previews says because the film features a commendable moral of soaring above all obstacles that this Disney Classic should be a real crowd-pleaser. The website indicates that there are a few scenes that may be scary and emotional for small children. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 6 and older.

Amazon Instant: "The Wizard of Oz"

The Dove Foundation awarded the film its Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages, stating it is an enchanting story with positive life lessons. The website indicates, however, that some scenes, especially those involving flying monkeys, may be too intense for very young children. Ok.com recommends the film for viewers ages 4 and older.
