LINDSBORG — The annual Jenny Lind Concert will be held at 2 p.m. on June 11 at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery located at 401 North First Street in Lindsborg. The concert showcases the winner of the prestigious 2017 Jenny Lind Scholarship, soprano Ylva Stenberg. The award is given each year by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the People’s Parks and Community Centers in Stockholm, Sweden. Stenberg, along with accompanist Allan Timofeitchik, will be performing selections by a variety of composers, including Chopin, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, and Verdi. A reception will be held following the concert.
Ylva Stenberg was born and raised in Arvika, Sweden. After graduating from Solberga high school, she started studying music at Ingesund and Vadstena Colleges between 2006 and 2012. In 2012, Stenberg began graduate training in opera at the College for Music Theater and Media in Hannover. Since the fall of 2016, her training evolved into studies at the Hannover Opera’s Opera Studio.
Stenberg’s desire is to have the opportunity to meet Swedish and American audiences through singing, and touch both the experienced opera audience as well as those who have never heard classical singing before. She will perform in places where Jenny Lind (1820-1887) made lasting impressions in Canada and the United States.
Accompanist Allan Timofeitchik began his musical career after he received a baccalaureate degree in science. He currently is in his second year of the master’s program at the Malmö Academy of Music. His concert experience spans solo piano recitals as well as chamber music events.
The concert is sponsored by the Sandzen Gallery, the American-Scandinavian Association of the Great Plains, and the Lindsborg Arts Council.
There is no charge for admission to the concert. For further information call the Gallery, 785-227-2220, or email fineart@sandzen.org.
