HELPING HAND LAND — Movies are one of the most inspirational forms of entertainment. Previously we recommended three great movies to inspire everyone to do some good. Here are a few more movies that can inspire us to be the change we want to see in the world.
Finding Nemo
This Pixar classic is flooded with wonderful helping hands—or should I say fins?
As father and son struggle to reunite, they each receive assistance in the most unlikely of places. From the friendly but forgetful fish, Dory, to surfing sea turtles and a plucky pelican named Nigel, the big blue sea is full of genuine characters eager to play a part in Marlin’s mission to save Nemo.
“Finding Nemo” is a playful and meaningful story that illustrates how we can always find good people (and sea creatures) in the world. It’s also a great reminder that we can influence others by simply being willing to lend a helping hand.
Glory Road
Sometimes doing good comes down to giving someone else a chance to shine. Putting others first not only teaches us humility, but it can also make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
“Glory Road” is based on the true story of Don Haskins and the 1966 Texas Western basketball team. In a time of segregation and racism, Haskins plays the best athletes, regardless of race. This bold decision, along with some rigorous training, leads the team to the NCAA Championship game with the first ever all-black starting lineup.
This inspiring story begs the question, what untapped potential can we find in the people we interact with every day? Never underestimate the power of believing in those who don’t believe in themselves.
Lilo & Stitch
Lilo is a 6 year-old girl who lives on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i with her sister, Nani. If you have ever felt left out of a group, then you can relate to little Lilo who struggles to be understood. When an alien named Stitch crash lands near her home, Lilo quickly finds a friend.
“Lilo & Stitch” is an adorable movie that portrays both sides of being kind. As this unique family comes together, they realize how much both giving and receiving kindness can mean. There’s nothing more important than the people you love, even if one of them is literally an alien.
