Six Great Bend musicians will be involved in the Kansas Bandmasters Association meeting in Wichita next week, said Joe Boley, a retired Great Bend band director, local musician and band historian. Boley will give a clinic on the history of band associations dating back to 1879.

The KBA convention will take place July 12-15 at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Wichita Airport.

Don Regehr, Great Bend Middle School band director, has two students playing in the Middle level Honor Band: Kaitlyn Froetschner (flute) and Keegan Roblyer (trombone).

Another local musician, retired band director Marc Webster, is the executive secretary of Phi beta Mu, a band directors’ fraternity that meets at the same time as the KBA each summer.

Jeff Underwood, a former Great Bend musician now living in Lawrence, plays euphonium with the Lawrence Municipal Band, which will present a concert at the convention.
