The Pilot Club of Great Bend got in the spirit of Thanksgiving and International Care & Kindness Week. The week-long Pick Me Up public awareness campaign is meant to bring awareness to how simple acts can change a day, a life or the world by simply showing someone you care. The Pilot club “Just Popped in to say Thank you,” by taking packets of popcorn to the Great Bend Police Department, Fire Department, 911 Center, and sheriff’s department.

At its most fundamental level, the Pick Me Up program provides additional care and kindness to caregivers, individuals and groups. The club’s initiative is to support caregivers and to create a world where all are valued. As Pilots, they continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of those in the community.

International Care & Kindness Week encourages people to “Take Time to Care and Be Kind.” Pilot International is made up of a diverse group of people who care for their communities and want to make the world a better place. Pilot’s mission is “to serve by furthering Pilot International’s humanitarian efforts through charitable, educational, and research programs in communities throughout the world.” As Pilots they strive to Do more ... Care more ... Be more ...  To do this, they come together in friendship and service, focusing on encouraging brain safety and health and supporting those who care for others. The “Pick Me Up” program is an initiative that seeks to promote awareness of the unique needs of caregivers.

According to the National Alliance for Caregiving: “The most popular aspects of caregiving for which caregivers would like help with or information about are keeping their loved ones safe at home (37%), managing their stress (34%), easy activities to do with their care recipient (34%), and finding time for themselves (32%).” Caregivers are mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, spouses, neighbors, youth, therapists, lawyers, teachers, veterans, doctors, nurses and more. They are also those remarkable groups of people who provide services to others throughout the community.
