Ann Palmer was named Woman of the Year by Kansas Laureate Kappa. Nancy McAllister, not pictured, was honored by Xi Delta Upsilon as Woman of the Year.

Preceptor Pi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi hosted Founder’s Day for the three Great Bend BSP chapters on April 30 at First Christian Church with a catered meal. Preceptor Pi chose a picnic theme for the celebration.

Janis Link, president of Preceptor Pi, served as master of ceremonies. Lois Johnson of Preceptor Pi provided piano accompaniment for members in the singing of the National Anthem. Other Preceptor Pi members participating in the program were Brenda Black, Judy Krebaum and Rosie Luthi. Guests included members of the former Theta Master chapter, Patty Fairbanks, Shirley Slater and Elsena Bender.

Honored with Woman of the Year Awards were Janis Link, Preceptor Pi; Ann Palmer, Kansas Laureate Kappa; and Nancy McAllister, Xi Delta Upsilon, in her absence as she is recovering from a stroke.

Kansas Laureate Kappa presented a memorial ritual for Judy Rusco, who was a longtime member of the chapter. Guests of the chapter were Judy’s daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Bill Keffer, and their grandson, Will.

Each year, Beta Sigma Phi chapters choose special service projects, both large and small, and set about fulfilling their goals.

Preceptor Pi members continued donating fruit each month to First United Methodist Church’s Fruit Fillers Weekend Backpack Project for the Great Bend elementary schools. In February, members gave gifts to Boxes of Love for the elderly of Barton County. Preceptor Pi gave monetary donations to the Golden Belt Humane Society, Quilts of Valor, Hungry Hearts Soup Kitchen, Meals on Wheels and the Nancy McAllister Medical Fund.

This year, Kansas Laureate Kappa’s service projects included providing baby and children’s items for the Del Hayden Memorial Child Advocacy Center; a monetary donation to St. John’s Episcopal Church for food to be given to Park School’s children in need; adult items for the Domestic and Sexual Violence Center; Family Crisis Center; the Nancy McAllister Medical Fund; and United Way’s Boxes of Love.

Xi Delta Upsilon hosted a Potato Bar and Silent Auction to raise funds to help Nancy McAllister with medical expenses. The chapter provided a variety of gift baskets and other items for the Silent Auction.
