SALINA — The Salina Senior Center and the Salina Senior Theatre Project will open its fourth season with Carol Nimmons’ comedy “Mernie’s Little Hoax” at 7 p.m. on May 3 and 3 p.m. on May 4 at the Salvation Army, 1137 North Santa Fe in Salina.

“Mernie’s Little Hoax” is about a rich widow living in the Golden Gate Retirement Village. She is concerned because she has no known heirs to leave her fortune to. She devises a hoax to see who among her so-called friends might be candidates in her will. When her fake demise backfires she becomes the victim of crazy shenanigans plotted by a network of unpredictable retirees.

Tickets are $10 and will go on sale April 22 at the Salina Senior Center or may be purchased at the door each night of the performance. Refreshments will be provided and a drawing for door prizes will follow each performance.

About the project

Bob Sears with the Salina Senior Theater Project is a former Great Bend resident and was involved in several theater productions under the direction of Bob Loss at Barton Community College. Productions included “Rumors,” “Butterflies Are Free,” “I Hate Hamlet” and “They Dance Real Slow In Jackson.”

“I founded the Salina Senior Theatre Project in 2021,” Sears said. “Our first productions, ‘Senior Showcase,’ ‘Casserole Casanova,’ and ‘Peace Love and Tie Dye,’ were perform at the senior center. We had to find a bigger space since our audience size had grown.” Now the shows are performed at the Salvation Army, which has a stage.
