Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! This coming week we have an exciting event happening! On Friday, April 7 you can come to the library to be filmed and featured on our YouTube channel. If you have a favorite book you have read or want to share about a book you loved we want to hear about it. We will record you talking about the book and then share it with other library users on our YouTube channel. You can be an inspiration for others to read! If you are a bit camera shy we can always record you talking about your book as well.

I personally can’t decide if I would want to talk about my favorite book of all time, “The Great Gatsby,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, or maybe one of the books I’ve just finished and would highly recommend, like “Mexican Gothic,” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

Don’t forget that a new month means a new spice of the month! Come in quick to grab yours before their gone. This month is a bit of an international mash up with a spice from Israel called Zat’ar and a corn recipe from South America. I had never heard of this spice before so I will be very intrigued to try it myself.

Speaking of spices and food, we have a brand new event Thursday night called Crockpot Cooking. This will be a crockpot cooking basics class led by Miss Lisa and will cover everything from basics to some exciting new recipes. As our resident library chief, Lisa will run you through quick, weeknight dinners to crowd-pleasing favorites perfect for any dinner party or get-together. This event starts at 6 p.m. That means doors will close at 6:15 p.m., and no one will be let in the building after that time. So be sure to get here on time or I’m afraid you’ll be going hungry.

Also happening Thursday night will be our next meeting of the Silver Screen Society meeting at 7 p.m. This month’s film is the Norwegian thriller “Insomnia.” Set in a Norwegian city with a 24-hour daylight cycle, known as the Midnight Sun, a Swedish murder investigator (Stellan Skarsgård) has been brought in on a teen murder case. Sleep-deprived, he makes a horrible mistake which is discovered by the killer he has been hunting. If you’re a fan of thrillers, murder mysteries, or maybe just free popcorn, you definitely won’t want to miss out on this one.

But don’t worry film fans because we have another movie for you the very next day. Friday at 7 p.m. we will be showing the sequel to one of Tom Cruise’s most famous films. After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past as he trains a new generation of Top Gun pilots to take on an extremely dangerous mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
