Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Summer is officially over, at the library at least, no one seemed to have informed the weather of that fact. We are taking a bit of a break from programming to recuperate and get ready for all the exciting fall programming we have coming. That said, we do have movies still.

Thursday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m., the Silver Screen Society will be meeting to watch the 2013 action thriller based on the French comic “Snowpiercer.” In a future where a failed climate-change experiment has made the earth uninhabitable, the only surviving beings live aboard the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe never stopping. The rich and powerful live in comfort and luxury while the poor live in cramped sickly conditions in the train’s tail section, starved and enslaved to serve those further up on the train in first class. At the head of the train lives Snowpiercer's creator who is revered as a god by the rich passengers of the train. But what happens when the downtrodden third class finally takes a stand against their oppressors? Come find out tonight at 7 p.m!

Friday we have another train-themed movie. We actually didn’t plan this, just a happy accident, at our Adults’ Night Out Movie. This time we follow Brad Pitt amongst an ensemble cast of assassins aboard a bullet train traveling through Japan. A twisting and interweaving story slowly reveals each assassin’s story and the missions that have led them all to be on this train seeking something in common. Stop by at 7 p.m. Friday for a chance to check out this thrilling comedy based on Kotaro Isaka’s novel "Bullet Train." North doors for both movies will open from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., as these are after-hours programs no one will be permitted entrance after 7:15 p.m.
