DOWNS — Amateur storytellers will come together with their best tall tale story at the Tall Tales Storytelling competition. Preliminary competition starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1019 Blunt Street, Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Downs.

“Storytellers come with their best story to try to outdo each other to advance to the Kansas Storytelling Festival Tall Tales Contest April 26,” said Allen DeBey, Kansas Storytelling Contest winner.

“If you need a copy of the Kansas Storytelling Festival Rules and the Kansas Story Telling Festival Guidelines for the Tall Tale Competition, let us know,” said Kenny Lee, emcee for the preliminary contest. “We want to get the guidelines and rules to all storytellers who are interested.” Receive a copy of the rules and guidelines by contacting Glennys Doane, 785-454-6648.

To share a story, email to register at kansasstorytelling@gmail.com with your name and story title. Winners of the Tall Tale preliminaries are chosen by audience vote and a panel of judges. Preregistration is encouraged.

Contestants will receive hearty applause from the audience and all in attendance may enjoy homemade desserts during intermission. The event is free.
