Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Fall events are finally here. We will kick things off Thursday, Aug. 31, with the Crochet Club, which meets every Thursday at 4 p.m. Then at 6 p.m. we have a new cooking class brought to us by our resident library chef Lisa. For this class, she will be focusing on easy weekday meals, perfect for this busy, back-to-school time. It’s never a bad idea to have a few fail-safe meals up your sleeve, after all. Come learn three quick and easy dishes for the nights you don’t have time to cook.

After you learn some meal hacks, make your way downstairs for delicious popcorn and a movie at 7 p.m. This month we will be watching a movie about friends Kathy (Carey Mulligan), Tommy (Andrew Garfield), and Ruth (Keira Knightley) growing up together at a seemingly idyllic boarding school in the English countryside. When they finally leave the school and the horrible truth of their purpose is revealed to them, they must simultaneously confront deep-seated feelings of love, jealousy, and betrayal that threaten to tear their friendship asunder and make them consider the meaning of their lives. To get more info on the film or to join our Discord, where you can talk to other film fans, make suggestions for future films, and get updates on what’s going on with the club, check out the club’s webpage on our website.

The library will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 4. Then Tuesday, Sept. 5, TeenBookCrate registration begins for students in grades 5-12. Sign up on the teen landing page of our website to receive your themed reading and activity bundle this September. Need volunteer hours or just like helping out in your community while hanging out with those your age? Come to our VolunTeens Shelving Workshop on Tuesday at 4 p.m. to learn how to properly shelve books and be a junior librarian for the day.

Next Thursday, Sept. 7, we have Marvel Movie Trivia at Dry Lake Brewing. This trivia will focus specifically on theatrically released Marvel movies. If you’re a mega Marvel fan or have just been dragged to all the movies by someone who is, this is the trivia for you! Grab a team of four or go it solo. Register your team on our website or come to the brewery by 6:30 p.m. to register in person for your chance to win bragging rights as well as some fabulous prizes.
