Mr. and Mrs. Calhoon

Gina Colleen Penka and Kirk Alan Calhoon were united in marriage on June 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend in a double ring ceremony officiated by Tom Sheldon. Parents of the bride are Kenneth and Rhonda Penka of Great Bend. Parents of the groom are Brian and Terri Calhoon and Mike and Shelly Wilkison, all of Beloit. Grandparents of the bride are Darrell and Colleen Rexwinkle and Evelyn Penka, all of Great Bend, and the late Edward Penka. Grandparents of the groom are Don and Sherry Calhoon, of Phillipsburg and Don and Sharon Stroede, of Beloit.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Maggie Sottero strapless fit and flare gown. The bodice was panels of ruched crystal organza and beaded embellishments with a floating, tiered A-line skirt accented with a crystal organza rosette at the hip. She wore a two tier crystal and beaded trimmed veil and carried a hand tied bouquet of mini white with deep purple throat calla lilies, bright orange roses, lime green button mums, and mini lime green orchids accented with maiden hair fern and lily grass.  
Maid of honor was Lisa Penka, sister of the bride, of Mission. Matron of honor was Denise Dietz, sister of the bride, of Eudora. Bridesmaids were Callie Line and Emily Crupper, both of Overland Park, Lindsay Sieben, of Manhattan and Megan Stafford, of Great Bend. They wore deep plum strapless cocktail length dresses with a ruched bodice and satin sash. They carried a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet.
Best man was Aaron Dronberger of Providence, R.I. Groomsman were Andy Walter of Kansas City, Mo., Tyler Cummins and Philip Wolken, both of Lawrence, Justin Carson of Wichita and Kaid Calhoon, brother of the groom, of Beloit.
Ushers were Tony Penka, brother of bride, Dyllan Nuzum, brother of groom, Reese Wilkison, brother of groom, and Levi Donals and Tony Lamb.
Flower girl was Malia Dietz, niece of the bride, of Eudora. Ringbearers were Brayden Penka of Lenexa and Ethan Dietz of Eudora, both nephews of the bride.
Pianist was Nancy Baxter, and soloist was Alicia Westhoff, both of Great Bend.
Candle lighters were Caitlin Debes of Great Bend and Christy Keeley of Omaha, Neb.
Readers were Courtney Coverdale, cousin of the bride, of Topeka, and Dawndra Nuzum, sister of the groom, of Manhattan.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Great Bend High School and a 2006 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing. She is a senior account manager for PAETEC in Kansas City, Mo.
The groom is a 2002 graduate of Beloit High School and 2006 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations. He is employed as a Human Resource Consultant by PayChek in Overland Park.
After a honeymoon trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the couple resides in Overland Park.
