A 39-year-old Alabama man was killed last Friday morning in a fiery two-vehicle accident in Stafford County, about 14 miles south of Great Bend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports that Terry Johnson, of Oneonta, Ala., died when the Toyota Tacoma pickup he was driving collided with a semi-trailer carrying packages for UPS, at the intersection of U.S. 281 and K-19.

The driver of the semi, Jason L. Wood, 37, of Salina, was injured and taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital.

Johnson was reportedly eastbound on K-19 and ran the stop sign at the intersection at 5:45 a.m. Friday. His pickup collided with the driver’s side door of the semi, which rolled into a ditch and caught fire. The driver was able to escape.

The patrol said Johnson was not wearing a set belt.
