The Great Bend Recreation Commission has a few openings left for its American Red Cross Baby-sitters Training later this month, GBRC Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said. The training is open to youths 11-15 years old and will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Great Bend Recreation Center located at 1214 Stone St.

This Red Cross course gives participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants through school-aged children, Fitzpatrick said. Topics include safety issues, preventing injuries and illness, basic child care, first aid, rescue breathing, care for choking, and age appropriate behavior. Each student will receive Red Cross handbook and a wealth of information. Students are required to bring a sack lunch. The entry fee is $24, and partial scholarships are available.

Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, Feb. 13. To register stop by the Recreation Commission office at 1214 Stone St. For more information call 793-3755 ext. 2 or e-mail recreation@gbrc.kscoxmail.com.
