Communication topic of Continuing Nursing Education

"Communication: The Art of Listening and Conveying Your Message" is the topic of a Continuing Nursing Education seminar at Barton Community College. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, in the Fine Arts Building Seminar Room, F-30. Speaker will be Jenni Reling, M.S., B.S.

This seminar is for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, licensed mental health technicians and other health-care professionals. The college is approved as a provider of Continued Nursing Education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.

Participants in this course will learn about factors that lead to enhanced communication and those that can interfere with communication; identify the No. 1 communication "challenge" in organizations and discuss methods for solving it; learn to avoid at least three communication "blunders" and replace them with three communication "wonders"; identify the four basic communication styles; and discuss implications for communication interactions.

Registration fee is $75, which includes one-half college credit, continuing education hours, materials and refreshments. This course offering is approved for 7.5 contact hours applicable for RN, LPN and LMHT re-licensure.
