The Dream Theatre in Russell will show the new independent film “Wichita” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1. The film will also be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at the Crest Theater in Great Bend. Doors open each night at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $10.
Writer/director Nick Barton, a Great Bend native, will be at the Deines Cultural Center in Russell from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday to answer questions about the movie and his goals for the future of filmmaking in Kansas before the screening. There will be discussion and light refreshments. Barton is co-owner of Prestigious Films, based in Wichita.
Filmed in and around Wichita in 2013, “Wichita” is an independent full-length feature western set in 1882. A fugitive on the run tracks his assailants into the quiet cow town of Wichita. While there, a drifter befriends a few families along the outskirts of the city and uncovers a dark truth about the town and its inhabitants. This film has not yet been rated but is intended for mature audiences.
