Great Bend teens in Topeka collision

TOPEKA — A car carrying three Great Bend teenagers struck a car that was stopped in traffic at 12:25 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 24, just east of Kansas Ave. in Topeka, resulting in possible injury to one of the teens. No one in the other car was hurt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol online crash logs.
The Chrysler passenger car was driven by Chon Chavez, 19, of Great Bend, who was not injured. Passenger Melina Chavez, 14, Great Bend was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Topeka with possible injury. She was the only one not wearing a seat belt. Passenger Anthony Valenzuela, 18, also of Great Bend, was not injured. The car that was hit was a Nissan driven by Dalton L. Rhoads, 20, of Emporia. Rhoads and his passenger, Haley Robertson, 19, of Emporia, were wearing seat belts and were not injured.
