Andrea L. Trevino, 35, of Great Bend was taken to Clara Barton Hospital by Ellinwood Emergency Medical Service following an injury accident Tuesday afternoon one mile west of Ellinwood.
According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 3:43 p.m. on U.S. 56. A Ford Escape driven by Melissa K. Adelhardt, 33, of Great Bend, had turned west onto the highway from East Barton County Road (Seventh Street in Ellinwood). Trevino was driving east in an Oldsmobile Alero, and slowed down for a vehicle in front of her. She then entered the westbound lane to avoid a rear-end collision with the other vehicle, resulting in a front-end collision with Adelhardt’s car.
Both drivers and their passengers were wearing seat belts. No other injuries were reported. Kansas Highway Patrol assisted.
