A 17-year-old woman from Kinsley died Tuesday after the car she was driving collided with a semi-trailer in Ford County.

Aracely Martinez was taken to Via Christi Medical Center’s St. Francis Hospital in Wichita following the 4:30 a.m. accident on U.S. 54, 11 miles east of U.S. 282. She died later that morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, she was driving east in the westbound lane when her vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, struck the driver’s side of a westbound Kenworth pulling two trailers. It was driven by Anibal Ruiz-Figueroa, 56, of Sherman, Texas, who was taken to the Minneola District Hospital with undetermined injuries. The car hit the semi around the number two axel, causing Ruiz-Figueroa to lose control of the rig. The truck turned onto the passenger side as the second trailer detached and went into a ditch. The tractor and first trailer came to rest on the passenger side across both driving lanes.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
