Lifeguard training offered in March

The Great Bend Recreation Commission’s Lifeguard Training Class will be held March 20-25 at Barton Community College. This class is for any individual wanting to become a lifeguard.

Those enrolling need to be 16 years old or older. Swimming skills needed include the crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. The preliminary skills are: 300-yard swim using the crawl and breaststroke, timed surface dive in 10-foot water, and get a 10 pound brick and swim with it for 20 yards.

Class meets at Barton Community College Pool from 1–5 p.m. on March 20, and continues from 6-10 p.m. March 21-25.

A lifeguard Recertification class will also be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 26 at the BCC Pool. The Instructor is Paige Achatz.

The deadline to enroll is 5 p.m. March 17, at the Great Bend Recreation Commission Office, 1214 Stone St.
