Polka Days coming to Great Bend

The Po.L.K. of A. Kansas Chapter will hold its 25th annual Polka Days, Aug. 19-21 at the Highland Hotel Convention Center in Great Bend.

The lineup of musical entertainment will include three bands from the first Polka Days that are still playing: The Blue Notes, from Kansas; Polka Nuts, from Colorado; and the Wendinger Band, featuring Peter and Paul Wendinger from Minnesota. Additional music will be performed by the Country Dutchmen, from Kansas, and by Julie Lee and White Rose from South Dakota.

From the time the doors open at 7:30 p.m. on Friday until the closing ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, bands will offer 22 hours of polka music on a 4,800-square-foot wood floor. Polka Days, which are always held on the third weekend in August, will also feature a Polka Mass and the traditional Parade of Flags, showing the states represented by dancers from across the nation.

The Highland Hotel is offering a special rate and recreational vehicles can find spots with electrical hookups south of the railroad tracks. Advance tickets can be ordered now from the Po.L.K. of A. Kansas Chapter, 809 Coolidge St, Apt. 211, Great Bend, KS 67530 and the cost is $9 for Friday, $15 for Saturday, $12 for Sunday, and $25 for Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be ordered now and table reservations for Saturday and Sunday close at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19.
