Barton County received anywhere from 3 to 9 inches of snow Monday and Tuesday, with the greatest snowfall occurring around Claflin, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall was followed by the appearance of snowmen and other snow sculptures.
That makes this week the perfect time to enter the Great Bend Recreation Commission’s annual snow sculpture, said GBRC Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick. There is no charge to enter.
"To enter your creation, simply take a photo of your snow sculpture and mail it to the GBRC, P.O. Box 353, or e-mail it to gfitzpatrick@gbrc.kscoxmail.com. Please send us a list of all the participants that helped make your creation. We will also need the mailing address and phone number of the contact person for your creation," Fitzpatrick said.
The contest will run through March 31, 2012. Winners will be announced the first week of April. The first-place prize is a $25 gift card and the second-place prize is a $15 gift card, both donated by Walmart. For more information call the Recreation Commission office, 793-3755 ext. 2.
