Registration being taken for boating safety class

The Great Bend Recreation Commission and the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department will host a Boating Safety Course on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St.

Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989, must successfully complete a boating safety course in order to operate a motorboat or sailboat. Exemptions from this requirement include persons 21 years of age or older and persons operating a boat under direct, audible supervision of an individual at least 18 years of age who possesses a boating safety certificate or who is exempt from the boating safety certificate requirements. Operators 12-15 years old who successfully complete an approved boating safety course may also operate alone.

Students are required to bring a sack lunch. Registration deadline for this free course is Friday, March 25. To register call the Recreation Commission office, 793-3755 ext. 2, or e-mail recreation@gbrc.kscoxmail.com.
