Tanker driver injured in rollover

A Hazmat response team was needed to unload oil after a semitrailer went off a Russell County road Tuesday afternoon, injuring the driver from Great Bend.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports Shelby L. Stone Jr., 52, attempted to miss a deer in the roadway at 2:05 p.m. and the Freightliner went off Michaelis Road. He was driving east and was 0.6 miles east of U.S. 281, and another 11 miles south of Russell.
The semi started to enter the south ditch, and movement of liquid in the tanker trailer caused the vehicle to roll three-quarters of a turn, coming to rest on the driver’s side in the ditch. Stone was wearing a seat belt. He was taken to Russell Regional Hospital.
Barton County logs show the Hazmat team was sent from Great Bend and Ness City to off-load the oil.
