The Great Bend Kiwanis club is accepting new orders for its flag project, where 3-by-5-foot U.S. flags on poles are placed in front of local homes or businesses and on the Broadway islands on five patriotic holidays. Those wanting to subscribe to the service in time for a Fourth of July flag must submit an order form and payment no later than Wednesday, June 24, according to project member Barry Bowers.

Club members placed 135 flags on Flag Day, June 19. Businesses that don’t have green space for a flag can support the effort by sponsoring a flag on Broadway. Bowers said there are still 12 Broadway island flags that need sponsors.

Club members place the flags in the morning and pick them on in the evening on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day. Cost is $40 per year but those wishing to start the service now can do so for $30 for the next three holidays of 2020.
